How Resistant Starches Can Support Your Gut Health

First, what Is Resistant Starch?

It's a form of fiber that is less aggravating than other forms of fiber, making it great for those healing from leaky gut! It's a huge part of my Gut Thrive 5-step healing protocol for this reason.

Foods with resistant starch digest very slowly and feed the good gut bacteria while the unhealthy gut bacteria have no interest in it, leading to the starvation and death of the unhealthy gut bacteria overtime. This is why it is highly recommended during Step 2: The Pathogen Purge of the GT5 protocol.

Resistant starches create little to no insulin response, which then helps to stabilize AND utilize blood sugar more efficiently. They also promote the growth of the probiotic species called Bacteroidetes. 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐚 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐬, 𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐬, 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐮𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐞.

Other benefits and reasons resistant starch is a key "𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐞" for GT5 clients include:

  1. Reduces bowel cancer encouraging beneficial apoptosis (cancer cell death).

  2. Helps reduce intestinal permeability/leaky gut and reduces the uptake of inflammatory toxins into the blood, lymph, and liver.

  3. In animal studies, resistant starch was also shown to increase the absorption of minerals (calcium, iron, zinc, and magnesium)

Foods that are considered resistant starches are:

  • Green (unripe) bananas

  • cooled and boiled white potatoes

  • cannellini beans

  • navy beans

  • certain types of peas

  • plantains

  • cassava flour

  • green banana flour

  • unmodified raw potato starch

It's important to work with a skilled practitioner when it comes to adding these foods into a healing plan. Some are NOT RECOMMENDED until AFTER ELIMINATION OF the PATHOGEN(S).
